Urban Stages is pleased to announce their holiday show for families, The magical Forest of Baba Yaga,

translated by Stanton Wood written by Eugene Schwartz. Performances will be at 259 West 30th Street (between 7th and 8th) and will begin on Thursday, December 14th.

Russian fairy tales come alive through magic, fun, theatricality and music in The magical Forest of Baba Yaga, based on the beloved Russian character who lives in a log cabin that moves around on a pair of dancing chicken legs. In a world where children are turned into trees and impossible tasks are everyday chores, poor Lisa has to use all her inventiveness to find and free her lost children from the clutches of Baba Yaga. Aleksey Burago, director of the Urban Stages hit Ah, My Dear Andersen, directs this new version by Stanton Wood (The Snow Queen). Original music by Greg Adair (Circus Contraption) and Colm Clark (Urban Stages' Ah, My Dear Andersen).

Russian director Aleksey Burago graduated from Moscow Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS). He has directed shows in Moscow, St. Petersburg, as well as New York City. Aleksey received best director awards at Moscow Festival of Classical Plays and St. Petersburg Festival of comedy shows. His direction of On the Eve in 1998 at the Neighborhood Playhouse received critical acclaim. Aleksey is professor of acting at the Denmark Academy of Theatre Arts and is currently teaching acting/directing classes at HB Studio in New York. When Aleksey directed Ah, My Dear Andersen for Urban Stages in 2003, The New York Times called the production, “visually stunning.”

The magical Forest of Baba Yaga will run from Thursday, December 14th through Sunday, January 7th. See below for a complete calendar.

Tickets will be $20.00 and may be purchased by calling Smarttix at 212-868-4444, or online at www.smarttix.com or www.urbanstages.org. Photos will be available for download at www.brettsinger.com/clients/urbanstages.html.
