FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, PLEASE
Release Date: October 26, 2004
In March of 2003, The Peccadillo Theater
Company presented the rarely seen play The Ladies of The Corridor to
wide critical acclaim. Now the play is
back, for one evening only, starring theater legend Marian Seldes and
co-presented by The Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets range from $30 - $100; all proceeds
will benefit The Peccadillo Theater Company.
The Ladies of the Corridor is a sharply funny and wryly sympathetic
look behind the closed doors of New York City’s Hotel Marlow. Following the
death of her husband, Lulu Ames moves into the hotel and immediately embarks on
a romance with a much younger man. Mildred Tynan, another resident, walked out
on an abusive husband and now finds herself alone with a sadistic stranger and
on the brink of alcoholism. Grace Nichols lives down the hall. She keeps her middle-aged son tied to her
apron strings with the threat of exposing a terrible secret. These women, along
with several other colorful characters, cross paths in the corridor of this
genteel establishment, where a skeleton is hung in every closet.
The character of Grace Nichols will be played by Marian Seldes. Ms. Seldes is a theatrical legend who has
appeared in numerous Broadway and off-Broadway shows, including 45 Seconds
From Broadway, Deathtrap, The Merchant, Equus, Father's Day (Tony nom.,
Drama Desk Award), Before You Go, and A Delicate Balance, for
which she won the Tony Award for Best Actress.
Off-Broadway credits and awards include The Ginger Man (Obie), Isadora
Duncan (Obie), Painting Churches (Outer Critics Circle Award), Richard
II, Richard III, Mercy Street, Dear Liar, A Bright Room Called Day, and Three
Tall Women.
David Greenspan’s credits include The Wax at Playwrights
Horizons, Saved or Destroyed at Rattlestick, Small Craft Warnings at
Tribeca Playhouse, High Life and Second-hand Smoke at Primary
Stages, and The Boys in the Band (Obie, Drama Desk Nomination). He has directed and/or acted in his own
plays, including Jack, The Home Show Pieces, 2 Samuel 11, Etc., Dead Mother,
or Shirley Not All in Vain (at the Public), She Stoops to Comedy (at
Playwrights Horizons, Obie), and The Myopia, an epic burlesque of tragic
proportion.
The Peccadillo Theater Company was founded in 1994 with the goal of
producing forgotten American classics – “forgotten” in the sense that most of
the work the company does is rarely revived, and “classic” in the sense of
enduring theatrical value. The company
recently presented a highly acclaimed revival of John Colton’s The Shanghai
Gesture while its widely praised production of Counsellor-At-Law,
starring John Rubinstein, moves to the Theatre at St. Clement's in
January. Peccadillo is currently
producing a new musical entitled The Talk of the Town about the Algonquin
Round Table, three of whose members penned previous Peccadillo productions -
Kaufman and Connelly's Beggar on Horseback and Dorothy Parker's The
Ladies of the Corridor.
The Ladies of the Corridor will be performed on Thursday, November 18th
at 8pm. Tickets are $30 for the show
and $100 for special seating and a pre-performance reception with the cast
featuring entertainment from The Talk of the Town. Students can purchase tickets for $12. To order, call the Skirball box office at
(212) 992-8484, or online at www.skirballcenter.nyu.edu.
