Rocky from the Bronx Productions will present Corn Bread & Feta Cheese [Buk & Djath]: Growing Up Fat & Albanian.  The one-woman show, written by and starring actress and comedienne Elza Zagreda, will be directed by Vincent Marano.

Did you ever wonder what it was like growing up Albanian?  A world where you’d watch people get shot at weddings out of pure joy? Where you’d roast your pet sheep ‘Ragush’ for Thanksgiving dinner? Or where you’d hide handguns in your underwear?  Elza Zagreda’s story follows her odyssey as she struggles with growing up fat and Albanian in America, searching for her identity in a world of sheepherders and moonshine where men are men and women are ‘sacks made to endure….”

A graduate of Fordham and NYU, Ms. Zagreda has worked as an actress in such venues as The Helen Hayes Theatre (sharing the stage with Vanessa Redgrave and Tim Robbins), Classic Stage Company and the West End Theatre.  She has also appeared in work written and directed by Eve Ensler and Ellen McLaughlin.  Recent TV appearances include “Law & Order: SVU” (playing an Albanian mail order bride), ABC’s “One Life to Live” and was also one of the lovely blondes featured in the “1-800 CALL-ATT” commercial with Carrot Top.  A gifted comedienne, she’s also performed her stand-up comedy throughout various venues in New York City comedy clubs.

Director Vincent Marano has directed at the New York International Fringe Festival for the last three years including the award-winning productions of Tom Nolan’s The Way Out (Fringe, 2002) and Acts of Contrition (Fringe, 2003).  He’s also directed at Circle Rep, Belmont Italian American Playhouse, Chelsea Playhouse and the Riverside Theatre Company to name a few.

CORN BREAD & FETA CHEESE will begin performances on Wednesday, October 13th and will continue through Saturday, October 30th.  The schedule will be Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:00pm, and Sundays at 3:00pm.  There will be an additional performance on Tuesday, October 26th at 7:00pm.  Tickets are $20 and may be purchased by calling Smarttix at (212) 868-4444, or online at www.smarttix.com.  Photos will be available for download at www.brettsinger.com/clients/cornbread.html.
