NEVA SMALL: NOT QUITE AN INGENUE
July 27, 2007
Acclaimed singer and actress Neva Small will
bring her one-woman show NEVA SMALL: NOT QUITE AN INGENUE to the Actors
Temple Theatre. Previews begin on Thursday, August 16th, opening
night is set for Thursday, Aug 23rd.
Broadway and film star Neva Small
whimsically traces the highlights of her life through the music that has
carried and nurtured her professionally and personally. An entertainment that
offers some comfortable memories and more than a few surprises, all delivered
with the intimacy and joy of a seasoned performer. Songs are woven together with stories from her life and amazing
career as a performer on stage and screen.
Neva’s signature role of "Chava"
in the film version of Fiddler on the Roof ensured the inclusion of “Matchmaker” and “Sunrise, Sunset” along
with songs from the many Broadway and off-Broadway
shows she’s been associated with, including Henry Sweet Henry, The Prince of
Grand Street, Something More, The Threepenny Opera, Styne After Styne,
Something’s Afoot, The Impossible Years, Show Me Where the Good Times Are, and
Leonard Bernstein’s Mass. NOT QUITE
AN INGENUE will also feature songs written by Stephen Schwartz, Leonard
Bernstein, Marilyn and Alan Bergman and Bob Merrill.
Recently,
Neva co-starred with Michael Feinstein at Carnegie Hall and was guest
artist with the Walla Walla Symphony for an evening celebrating the music of
Rodgers and Hammerstein. Her first solo
CD “My Place in the World”, went on to become a top-selling Broadway vocal
music CD. The original cast recording of “Neva Small: Not Quite an Ingenue” has
just been released, details are on her website, www. NevaSmall.com. Neva’s television appearances have
included roles on “Law & Order” and the NBC production of “The Hijacking of
the Achille Lauro.”
Director Pamela Hall most recently staged Emily Mann’s Annulla at St. Luke’s Theatre, Trolls
at the Actors Playhouse and the long-running hit, Picon Pie at the
DR2 and Lambs Theatres. She was nominated for L.A.’s highest theatre
honor, the Ovation Award, for her direction of the Los Angeles premiere of The
Taffetas. She directed the West Coast premieres of Jeff Daniels’ black
comedy, Shoe Man, Mr. Allen, Mr. Allen, about legendary wit Fred Allen,
Maltby and Shire’s Starting Here, Starting Now and the long-running
original musical Crazy Words, Crazy Tunes at the Westwood
Playhouse. She is also known for her
