Performances at Different Parks Around The City - See Below for Schedule
June 14th Through July 7th

Inverse Theater will present THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION, written by Kirk Wood Bromley. There will be free performances at the East River Park Amphitheater and in the lawn below the Dairy in Central Park; a benefit performance will be held on July 4th. Howard Thoresen will direct. Performances will begin on June 14th, and will continue in three different locations (see below for a complete schedule).

THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION follows General George Washington on his epic quest to defeat the world's largest Empire. He faces British troops, American Tories, Hessian mercenaries, mutinying generals, a bankrupt Congress, and his own incompetent troops. He is followed by a wild and endearing troop of new recruits - The Rebel Mess. These four crazy patriots tumble through the war, making jokes, songs, and trouble for themselves along the way. The action spans Boston, New York, Philadelphia, London, Paris, and Yorktown, and includes recognizable historical figures such as Benedict Arnold and Washington himself. THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION is directed by Howard Thoresen for Inverse Theater.

THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION will begin its run at the East River Park Amphitheater, which has been closed to the public for several years. The Amphitheater is a historical landmark, and is the original home of Joseph Papp's Shakespeare in the Park. Inverse Theater is proud to be the first company to perform there in several years.

Inverse Theater was founded in 1998 to produce new American verse plays. Since then, the company has presented over a dozen productions, and was named Best Downtown Theater Company by NY Press last year. In 2001, Mr. Bromley was awarded the prestigious Berrilla-Kerr Playwrighting Award; his plays have been presented at theaters in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION will begin performances on June 14th, and will continue through July 7th. All performances are free; food and drink will be sold at the performance on July 4th as a benefit for Inverse Theater.
